At Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), pharmacists are currently researching a method for the simple, rapid and precise production of low-dose medicinal products.
The individualized production of medicines for children is often associated with a great deal of effort in hospitals and pharmacies. Commercially available preparations usually have to be dosed down to a child-friendly level - an error-prone and time-consuming process. An automated method could simplify this in the future: "2D printing of medicines is far more precise and faster than manual capsule or suspension production," reports Hoppe-Tichy, head of the clinical pharmacy at the UKHD. "The method could revolutionize precise drug production for children."
